Eleven Lebanese martyrs, including one soldier, and 83 wounded were reported after Israeli occupation forces targeted citizens returning to their towns in southern Lebanon on Sunday. This happened after the Israeli army warned against returning to 66 towns, declining to withdraw after the 60-day deadline set by the ceasefire agreement expired.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stressed that he is following the issue of the Israeli army’s failure to withdraw from southern Lebanon and its gunfire on Lebanese citizens at the highest levels, to ensure the rights of the Lebanese people.
Aoun said that “Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are non-negotiable,” urging the people of the south to remain calm and trust the Lebanese army.
Additionally, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati called on the countries sponsoring the ceasefire agreement to deter Israel and force its withdrawal, remarking that any deviation from the agreement’s terms and the implementation of Resolution 1701 would have severe consequences.
