24 New Buses to Strengthen Public Transport in the Regions Starting May 19

The Ministry of Transport has announced the signing of an agreement to transfer 24 new buses to several regional transport companies, with the vehicles set to enter service on Monday, May 19, 2025.

In a statement, the Ministry explained that the governorate of Mahdia will receive 6 buses allocated to the Sahel Transport Company. The governorate of Siliana will also receive 6 buses for the Regional Transport Company of Siliana. Meanwhile, 6 buses will be sent to the governorate of Sidi Bouzid for the “El Kawafel” Regional Company of Gafsa. The governorate of Kebili will receive 6 buses intended for the Regional Transport Company of Gabes.

The Ministry affirmed that this measure is part of the implementation of the recommendations issued by the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, aimed at developing the public collective transport system, reducing isolation in underserved regions, and enhancing interconnectivity between areas to meet citizens’ expectations. It also follows the decision announced by Transport Minister Rachid Amri during the plenary session of the Assembly of the People’s Representatives held on Tuesday, May 13, 2023.

Strengthening the regional bus fleets with new vehicles will help improve conditions for national exams, better prepare for the upcoming school year, and ensure smooth operation during the summer season. A well-considered approach has been adopted, taking into account the extent of damage to existing fleets, the density of demand, and the vitality of the affected routes, in order to restore balance to the interregional transport map.

The Ministry of Transport stressed that this batch of buses is only the first step in a series of corrective measures being gradually implemented in the field of urban and intercity transport. It also noted that additional regions will be supported in the near future.
