The Opera Theatre at the City of Culture will host the 24th edition of the Tunisian Song Festival, marking a first in the event’s history.
According to Seifallah Tarchouni, Director General of the Opera Theatre, the festival will, for the first time, be funded by the theatre, following outreach to a number of national institutions.
For his part, Chaker Cheikhi, head of the organising committee, said the festival’s 13-year hiatus hampered its development, while stressing that the event remains essential to preserving Tunisia’s musical identity.
He said the selection panel—made up of a poet, a musician and a composer—reviewed 105 submissions, selecting 18 entries for the new production competition, nine files in the instrumental category and seven for performance.
The organising committee will be introduced at the festival’s opening ceremony.
Cheikhi also said the total value of prizes to be awarded to winners stands at 105,000 dinars.
