4,485 cases of violence against women in Tunisia in 2025: Calls for stronger implementation of law 58-2017

According to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Women, Family, Children and the Elderly, 4,485 cases of violence against women were reported in Tunisia in 2025, highlighting ongoing challenges in protecting women from different forms of abuse.

Women’s rights activist Neila Zoghlami warned about the worrying increase in violence against women, noting that the phenomenon now includes femicides and cyber violence, with some cases reportedly leading victims to suicide.

While local associations play a key role in supporting and assisting victims of violence, she stressed that these efforts remain insufficient in the absence of a comprehensive national strategy.

Zoghlami emphasized the need for concrete measures to implement Law 58 of 2017, which combines prevention and protection mechanisms.

She called on key state institutions—particularly the Ministry of Women, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Youth—to intensify their efforts and introduce effective measures in both public and private spaces to break the cycle of violence.
