5.6-magnitude earthquake shakes western Iran

Western Iran was struck by a 5.6-magnitude earthquake early on Thursday morning local time, the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) reported.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 7 kilometers and had its epicenter located 97 kilometers northeast of Ahvaz in the Khuzestan province in southwestern Iran. A second, 4.9-magnitude earthquake occurred in the area twenty minutes later, 79 kilometers northeast of Ahvaz at a depth of 10 kilometers.

There were no immediate reports of fatalities or damage to buildings.
