5.6-magniture earthquake shakes New Zealand

A 5.6 magnitude earthquake hit New Zealand early on Friday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The epicenter was some 73 kilometers east of New Plymouth, home to around 86,679 people according to the 2013 Census.

The tremor struck the region at 223.1 kilometers, however, it remains unknown as of yet whether any casualties or damages were suffered.
