5,000 homes in five years: MP calls for a faster pace on social housing (video)

Member of Parliament Aouatef Chneiti said that the plan to build 5,000 social housing units over five years remains a “very small” figure. Speaking during a plenary session in Parliament, she called on the Minister of Equipment and Housing to put forward solutions that would speed up implementation and better meet citizens’ needs.

Criticism of the pace and call for practical solutions

In her remarks, Chneiti argued that the announced figures do not match the scale of demand for social housing. She urged a review of the program to expand supply and provide more effective solutions for the groups concerned.

The northwest to be included and the urban planning code revised

Chneiti also called for the northwestern governorates to be included in the list of regions covered by social housing programs. In addition, she advocated revising the Urban Planning Code, saying that updating the regulatory framework could help streamline procedures and improve how planning and construction are organized.

Rent-to-own: a “positive and direct” impact for families

She also welcomed the two draft laws related to selling social housing through rent-to-own contracts. In her view, this approach would have a positive and direct impact on families by making access to housing easier and improving the conditions for ownership.
