At least 89 people died after their boat sank off the coast of Mauritania, approximately 4 kilometers from the southwest city of Ndiago, the country’s state-run news agency reported.
The agency further said that nine individuals were rescued, including a 5-year-old girl.
Survivors told the media outlet that the boat departed from the Gambia-Senegal border and was traveling to Europe with at least 170 people on board.
