Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Friday, shortly after formally assuming office, that the comments from the Trump administration about his country becoming the 51st US state are “crazy.”
“We’re a very fundamentally different country,” Carney insisted “Personally, I’ve been clear … that we will never, ever, in any way, shape or form, be part of the United States,” he added. The new Canadian prime minister said that, when it comes to the “economics of it,” US President Donald Trump should understand as a “successful businessperson” that Canada is his “biggest client” and that, as such it, expects “respect” from Washington.
