French President Emmanuel Macron and the Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune revealed today, Monday, that their countries’ relations have returned to normal after months of tensions. This announcement followed a phone call between the two presidents.
The French president voiced his “trust in the wisdom of President Tebboune” and called for a “gesture of mercy and humanity” towards the French-Algerian writer Boualem Sansal, who was sentenced to five years in prison by an Algerian court.
The two countries also announced the resumption of cooperation in the fields of migration and security and reaffirmed their “desire to resume fruitful dialogue.”
