Kaïs Saïed honors the memory of the martyrs of April 9, 1938 (video)

On Wednesday morning, President Kaïs Saïed presided over the commemoration ceremony of the 87th anniversary of Martyrs’ Day at the Martyrs’ Cemetery in Séjoumi, the capital, which honors the events of April 9, 1938.

The Head of State laid a wreath of flowers in front of the Martyrs’ Memorial and recited the Fatiha in tribute to the brave martyrs. He then saluted the national flag as the national anthem played, while three cannon shots were fired to mark the occasion.

The events of April 8 and 9, 1938, were a key moment in the history of the national struggle against French colonialism. They paved the way for important political stages that ultimately led to independence, proclaimed on March 20, 1956, and the establishment of the republican regime on July 25, 1957.
