A stone’s throw from Eid Al Adha deadline, the bidding has already begun. The breeders, backed by their intractable UTAP, are commencing to step up to the plate. They declare the costs of sheep which will not drop below 600 DT each. And this, at the place of production. That is to say at the breeder. One wonders, accordingly, what will happen to the prices advertised for sale to the consumer? The problem is that these breeders, and their UTAP “godfathers”, don’t desire to hear about even the most basic laws of the markets. Specifically, the law of supply and demand. They do not want to hear anything when the Ministry of Agriculture ensures us that sheep will be in excess this year on the markets, with quantities given for sale, far greater than demand. However, the producers proceed to turn a deaf ear, determined to pump the Tunisian’s blood, as long as it falls into their grips. They are vicious, these vultures, knowing the greed of the Tunisian consumer, and they would be willing to go into debt to buy a sheep, for Eid.
Nevertheless, the best way to counter these bloodsuckers is to obstruct, for once, and oppose their dark aims, and their greed, at the cost of the consumer, already weakened by all circumstances. which have been inflicted on him for more than a year.
In the absence of a daring decision by the State to halt the sale of Eid sheep, it is the consumer who will have the responsibility to administer a powerful lesson to those who are after his blood and his money.
The consumer should make the decision to boycott the acquisition of the Eid sheep. He could simply amuse the family, paying for a few pounds of meat, just for the benefit of “doing business as usual.”
And He should not have any qualms to do it. Because if he thinks of the “poor breeder” who has the right to be paid for his hard work of a year, the poor customer should know that the greatest price of Eid sheep will fall within the pockets of occasional intermediaries in the Eid market and to deter and punish them, for wanting to steal the Tunisian, it is sufficient to boycott their merchandise as it will be guaranteed to ruin them. Because not being breeders or farmers, and having neither land, nor shepherds to be able to keep the sheep they purchased, just to bleed the Tunisian … They will suffer a deadweight loss, and will be required to sell off what will remain on their hands, at a low price.
It is, then, that the Tunisian will be capable to enjoy the stunning lamb meat at an affordable price while preserving his pennies to pay for other pleasures if he wanted!
The best that we could do to intermediaries in the sale of Eid sheep, is to pay for barbecues, after Eid, on the beaches, or on the streets of the beaches, since we will be able to provide beautiful days of vacation, just by having boycotted their scam system!
