À Sfax, l’hôpital numérique rapproche les spécialistes des patients (video)

The Sfax branch of the Ministry of Health’s digital hospital has been providing remote consultations in four medical specialties to patients at three healthcare facilities in the region since August 17, 2026, according to Sfax regional health director Hatem Cherif.

    Remote consultations reach three hospitals

Since its launch, the Sfax branch has provided remote consultations for patients at Kerkennah Regional Hospital, Jebeniana Regional Hospital and Bir Ali Ben Khalifa Local Hospital.

The consultations cover child psychiatry, psychiatry, joint and bone diseases, and neurology. They aim to bring specialist care closer to patients and reduce their need to travel.

Specialists from two university hospitals provide care

Consultations are delivered by specialists from the child psychiatry, psychiatry “B”, and joint and bone diseases departments at Hedi Chaker University Hospital, alongside the neurology department at Habib Bourguiba University Hospital.

They are organised in coordination with the Ministry of Health’s central digital hospital team, drawing on the medical expertise available in the region.

    Weekly consultations with expansion planned

Consultations continue on a weekly basis. The next phase envisages introducing additional medical specialties and gradually extending services to healthcare facilities in neighbouring governorates.

The aim is to make this medical expertise available to more patients, both within and beyond the region, particularly in areas where geographical constraints make travel difficult.

Connecting healthcare facilities to improve access

The Sfax branch serves as a coordination platform linking university, regional and local healthcare facilities. It aims to strengthen cooperation between their services and mobilise available medical, human and technological resources.

The project is part of the Ministry of Health’s efforts to develop digital healthcare services and promote more equitable access to care. It also seeks to strengthen Sfax’s role as a regional telemedicine hub.
