Algerian president Abdelmajid Tabboune directed Algerian companies, including a mobile phone operator (Djezzy 51% retained by the Algerian state) and two public insurance companies (a National Insurance Company SAA and the Algerian Insurance and Reinsurance Company CAAR), to end their contracts with foreign companies that could “impair” the nation and “its security,” local media announced. It is Moroccan firms that are especially concerned.
“Severe attacks on national security have been revealed by public and private companies which have started contractual relationships with foreign entities without account of the economic and strategic interests of the country”, wrote Mr Tebboune in a letter that dates back to April 25 but mentioned earlier this week by the local press.
These contracts would make “data” and “sensitive information” “available to foreign entities”. These companies have been granted 10 days to comply with President Tebboune’s direction, otherwise, legal action will be brought against those responsible for “concussion and complicity”.
