The Super Eagles have finished in third place more times than any other team, doing so on eight occasions: 1976, 1978, 1992, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2019. Nigeria are also the only team never to have lost a third-place match.
Egypt finished third in the 1963, 1970 and 1974 editions, and lost three third-place playoffs in 1976, 1980 and 1984.
