The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, held talks with his Rwandan counterpart—Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Olivier Nduhungirehe—on the sidelines of the 48th ordinary session of the African Union Executive Council, held in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, on February 11 and 12. On the same occasion, he also met with a number of Tunisian officials and professionals working across the organization’s various structures.
In a statement released on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the two ministers discussed coordination on items on the African Union Executive Council’s agenda. They underscored the strength of Tunisian-Rwandan relations and their shared commitment to elevating bilateral cooperation in line with the opportunities and potential available in both Tunisia and Rwanda.
The talks also addressed ways to make better use of economic cooperation mechanisms within the African Union framework, and to step up engagement in programmes aimed at advancing economic integration among African countries.
According to the same source, the meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm the sound preparations for upcoming bilateral engagements, as well as to rally support and backing for several Tunisian candidacies.
On Friday, the minister also met a group of Tunisian officials and professionals working in various structures of the organization, in the presence of Health Minister Mustapha Ferjani, who is participating in the high-level dialogue on health financing and health security.
Nafti expressed Tunisia’s pride in its professionals across a range of fields, praising their important role in enhancing the country’s image abroad, particularly in Africa. In this context, he recalled key historical milestones that demonstrate Tunisia’s deep African roots and its sustained commitment to strengthening joint African action and developing bilateral ties with countries across the continent.
He finally stressed the ongoing attention devoted to supporting members of the Tunisian community abroad, as well as improving and digitising the consular services provided to them, citing the various initiatives undertaken to this end.
