President of the Republic Kaïs Saïed visited several parts of the country on Tuesday, 20 January 2026, following the severe weather conditions that affected Tunisia. Among the locations he visited was the city of Teboulba, in the governorate of Monastir, where he met with the families of fishermen who have been missing since last Monday, as well as a number of citizens gathered at the scene.
Five fishermen at sea, one survivor confirmed
To learn more about the latest developments, Tunisie Numérique contacted Fawzi Jomaa, a member of the local council in Teboulba. In a statement to the outlet, he confirmed that one of the five fishermen has survived, adding that he is currently off the coast of the Kuriat (Quria) Islands.
The boat found, four fishermen still being searched for
According to Fawzi Jomaa, the five fishermen left the Port of Teboulba the day before yesterday (Monday) at around midday, before their boat sank. He said the boat has been located, but that four fishermen remain unaccounted for.
Search efforts continue as weather conditions improve
The local council member noted that search operations are ongoing, especially as weather conditions have seen a relative improvement today. He added that contact was made with the regional governor, who confirmed real-time monitoring of the case. “We hope the search operation will end with them being found alive,” he said.
“The case is now being followed at the highest level”
Commenting on the president’s visit to Teboulba, Fawzi Jomaa welcomed the move, saying it confirms the case is now being followed at the highest level of the state. “As long as the president has intervened in the matter, it will be monitored at the highest level,” he stated.
