Aïd 2025: varied prices and a controlled market, says ministry of trade (Video)

On Friday, May 30, 2025, the Minister of Trade and Export Development, Samir Abid, presided over an information and awareness workshop on trade defense mechanisms, held in the governorate of Bizerte.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Trade in collaboration with the Economic and Industrial Chamber of the Northeast, with support from the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GIZ). It brought together economic stakeholders and public institutions with the aim of strengthening understanding and application of tools to protect the national economy from unfair trade practices and harmful competition.

Reinforcing Economic Resilience Through Strategic Tools

In his address, Minister Abid emphasized the strategic importance of trade defense instruments in a global environment of increasingly liberalized markets. He stressed the need for Tunisian operators to better master tools such as anti-dumping duties, countervailing measures, and safeguard clauses, in order to protect sensitive sectors and maintain market balance.

Aïd El-Idha 2025: Sufficient Supply and Variable Prices

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique on the sidelines of the workshop, the Minister of Trade addressed a key concern for many Tunisians: the availability and pricing of sheep for Aïd El-Idha 2025. He assured the public that supply levels are sufficient this year, with a wide range of prices and in some cases, affordable options.

“Sheep for Aïd are available in sufficient quantities, with varying prices, and in some cases accessible to most families,” the minister stated.

Fighting Price Manipulation: Intensified Market Controls

Minister Abid also highlighted the government’s readiness to ensure a smooth holiday season through enhanced market monitoring operations.

“We are ready to secure supply during Aïd and firmly fight speculation by ramping up inspections,” he declared.
This effort is part of a broader strategy aimed at preserving consumers’ purchasing power, while curbing any unjustified price hikes in the lead-up to the religious holiday.

Anticipating Market Needs with an Integrated Approach

Through this dual action—raising awareness among professionals and reinforcing economic controls—the Ministry of Trade affirms its commitment to protecting both the national market and consumers. In a complex economic context, the government is seeking to strike a balance between supporting economic operators and ensuring price stability for all Tunisian households.
