During a meeting of the Council of Ministers, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune appointed Mohammed Lamine Lebbou as the new Governor of the Bank of Algeria.
Before taking up the post, Mohammed Lamine Lebbou served as Chief Executive Officer of BEA International Bank in France and previously headed the state-owned National Bank of Algeria (BNA) as CEO.
Aged 48, Mohammed Lamine Lebbou holds a bachelor’s degree in management sciences with a specialization in finance from Badji Mokhtar University in Annaba.
He then earned a master’s degree in industrial economics at Lumière University Lyon 2 (France), followed by a postgraduate diploma (DEA) in economic analysis of organizations at the same institution.
He later returned to Algeria to obtain a magister’s degree in economics, followed by a PhD in economic sciences and a university accreditation (HDR), all from Badji Mokhtar University in Annaba.
Prior to his appointment as CEO of BNA in May 2021, Lebbou held a range of senior positions, including as CEO of Icosia Capital, as well as executive roles within national holding companies such as Madar Holding, the Imetal Group, and the Sider Group. He also worked with several international banks and industrial entities, including BNP Paribas Algeria, Rayan Bank, Société Générale Algeria, Bamic Bank, and Algerian Qatari Steel.
