Algeria: Discovery and Seizure of a Coin Hoard of 10,200 Roman-Era Pieces

    Algeria’s Ministry of Culture and Arts announced that units of the National Gendarmerie, in coordination with the competent authorities under the Ministry of Culture and Arts, have succeeded in uncovering and seizing a monetary treasure dating back to the Roman era. The discovery comprises nearly 10,200 bronze coins. According to initial information, they are believed to date to the Roman period (4th century AD), along with three (03) other cultural assets that are still undergoing study and scientific identification.

    The ministry added that the security operation forms part of the national policy aimed at preserving cultural heritage and protecting it against any form of damage or illicit trafficking, reflecting the high level of vigilance and coordination among the State’s various institutions.
