Algeria orders 12 French embassy staff to leave the country within 40 hours

The Algerian authorities have requested 12 employees of the French embassy to leave Algerian territory within 48 hours, as announced by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot on Monday, April 14, 2025.

He explained that the decision came in response to the arrest of three Algerians in France, according to AFP.

In a written statement sent to journalists, Barrot said: “I urge the Algerian authorities to reverse this expulsion measure, which is unrelated to the ongoing judicial procedures in France.”

He added: “If the decision to expel our staff is upheld, we will have no choice but to respond immediately.”
