Algeria’s Abdelmadjid Tebboune re-elected president with 94.65% of vote

The National Election Commission in Algeria has announced the re-election of Abdelmadjid Tebboune for a second presidential term, with an exceptional 94.65% of the vote. Out of a total of 5,630,196 votes counted both domestically and abroad, Tebboune significantly outpaced his two competitors, showing strong citizen participation. This result confirms a landslide victory for the incumbent president, therefore consolidating his role on the Algerian political scene.

The presidential election witnessed three candidates in the running: the incumbent president Abdelmadjid Tebboune as an independent candidate, Youcef Aouchiche, secretary general of the Front of Socialist Forces, and Abdelali Hassani Cherif, president of the Movement of Society for Peace. The Electoral Commission hailed the conduct of the electoral campaign, characterized by calm and serenity.

A total of 6,689 campaign activities were organized, including 1,529 rallies held by the three candidates and their representatives. The national turnout attained 48.03%, while that of Algerians abroad stood at 19.57%. These figures are up from the 2019 presidential elections when the turnout was 41.14% in Algeria and 9.69% abroad.
