Alleged use of herbicides by Israel in Southern Lebanon raises UN concerns

On Friday, 6 February 2026, the United Nations expressed renewed concern over reports of the alleged use of herbicides by Israeli forces on agricultural lands in southern Lebanon, near the Blue Line, the demarcation line between Lebanon and Israel.

According to the UN, such actions could have serious humanitarian and environmental consequences for local populations, many of whom rely heavily on agriculture for their livelihoods. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) described the situation as a “serious humanitarian risk” for civilians living in the affected areas.
