Are You a Tunisian living abroad? This new service saves you time… and stress

Since June 1, 2025, Tunisia’s General Directorate of Border and Foreigner Police has launched a new service dedicated exclusively to Tunisians residing abroad (TRE), allowing them to obtain or renew their passports on the spot, without prior appointments and without disrupting their summer holidays.

Fast-track service praised by citizens

Upon arrival in Tunisia, many Tunisians have taken advantage of this initiative, avoiding long queues and wasted vacation days. Many shared their satisfaction: documents issued in record time, simplified procedures, and a stress-free stay.

Extended hours, even on holidays

Moez Thabet, Chief Police Commissioner, told national TV that offices are open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. non-stop, including weekends and public holidays — a response to high summer traffic.

Students abroad also included

Young Tunisians studying overseas can also benefit from this facility by visiting the “Citizen Relations” desk at the designated offices.

On board and in airports too

Two mobile units have been set up on the CTN ships Tanit and Carthage, allowing passengers to apply for or renew their passports during the crossing. Similar services are available at Tunis-Carthage Airport.

Sharp rise in travel

Between January 1, 2024 and May 29, 2025, the number of travelers increased by 800,000, prompting the modernization of consular services.

A precious time-saver for Tunisians abroad, who can now return home with peace of mind, free from heavy administrative burdens.
