At least 18 prisoners died and 16 were injured during a fight inside a juvenile detention centre in Honduras on Sunday, Inmates at the detention centre were reportedly having a meal when numerous prisoners armed with knives stabbed fellow detainees. The strike also wounded a dozen inmates, one of whom died later. The latest murderous brutality happened at a maximum-security prison.
Gang violence is a main quandary in Honduras, Members of the community who reside in a gang’s territory are required to pay “war taxes” for “protection,” and any observed act of disobedience or disloyalty to the gang is often punished by murder.
