At least two dead in Madrid explosion

Madrid Mayor Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida affirmed on Wednesday at least two people were killed and about ten were wounded in the blast in the Spanish capital earlier in the day.

Martinez-Almeida added the blast was most likely generated by a gas leak in the residences above the Virgen de la Paloma Parish, situated in the city centre. The school and the nursing home next to it appear not to be touched.

The mayor added the firefighters were still trying to contain the fire inside of the complex in such a way as to avoid a gas impoundment, which could “seriously affect the stability of the building.”
