The Minister of Agriculture, Ezzeddine Ben Cheikh, and the Minister of Trade and Export Development, Samir Abid, chaired a joint working session on Friday 12 December 2025 to review progress in the olive oil season. The meeting was attended by representatives of the National Oil Office, the banking sector, exporters, mill owners and farmers.
During the session, seasonal indicators were reviewed: the harvest has reached 25%. Discussions also covered demand levels on both the domestic market and export markets, stock volumes, and price trends locally and internationally. Exporters and mill owners stressed the importance of intervention by the National Oil Office to ensure continuity in processing operations, while the banking sector underscored the need to provide financing facilities to support farmers and exporters.
For their part, the two ministers reiterated the need to protect farmers’ interests—particularly smallholders—and to address the difficulties faced by mills in order to ensure the season proceeds under the best possible conditions. The meeting concluded with authorisation to implement a promotional programme for bottled olive oil on the domestic market, alongside oil storage measures and coordination with banks to finance stocks and safeguard the reputation of Tunisian olive oil on export markets.
