A fire broke out on Monday 9 June 2025, around midday, in cereal fields belonging to the agricultural complex of Thibar in the Béja governorate.
According to well-informed sources contacted by Tunisie Numérique’s correspondent in the area, the flames affected an estimated surface of less than half a hectare. The blaze was swiftly contained thanks to the joint intervention of civil-protection units and forestry officers dispatched to the scene.
A second blaze in a matter of days
This incident comes barely three days after a large-scale fire that broke out on the evening of Friday 6 June, ravaging between 40 and 50 hectares of wheat fields and inflicting significant losses on local farmers and the cereal sector.
The recurrence of such fires in such a short timeframe is cause for concern, especially as the summer season—typically conducive to agricultural blazes—approaches.
Renewed call to strengthen civil-protection presence
In light of the surge in fires across the region, MP Aouatef Chemiti has once again urged the Ministry of the Interior to set up a permanent civil-protection post in Thibar.
She argues that a local unit would guarantee rapid intervention and curb the extent of damage whenever a blaze erupts.
