Béja: pomegranate harvest progresses in Testour despite lower volumes (video)

The pomegranate harvest season in the governorate of Béja, particularly in the Testour delegation, is recording notable progress this year, according to El Bahri El Friani, head of the local agricultural union in Testour.

Lower volumes compared to last year

In a statement to the Béja correspondent of Tunisie Numérique, El Bahri El Friani explained that pomegranates are among the most climate-sensitive agricultural products, with production levels fluctuating from one season to another depending on weather conditions.

He noted that this year’s harvest shows a decline compared to the previous season, with an estimated output of around 12,000 tonnes in the Testour area, compared to between 14,000 and 15,000 tonnes last year.

    Product quality remains high

Despite the drop in quantities, the head of the local agricultural union stressed that the current season is distinguished by the high quality of the produce. The pomegranates display clear freshness and good flavor, reflecting farmers’ commitment to proper crop management and quality improvement.

Testour remains one of the main pomegranate-producing areas in the Béja governorate. Local farmers pay close attention to all stages of cultivation and harvesting to ensure a high-quality product that meets domestic market requirements and offers export potential.
