In the early hours of Monday, June 9, 2025, the city of Béja witnessed a heartfelt and popular welcome for the “Assommoud” (Steadfastness) Caravan arriving from Algeria and making its way to the Gaza Strip, in a powerful gesture of solidarity with the Palestinian people. This was reported by Tunisie Numérique’s local correspondent.
The caravan, made up of several buses and private vehicles, carries dozens of activists and citizens who began their journey in Algeria. Upon arrival in Béja, they were received by a large crowd of local residents, who expressed their full support for this humanitarian initiative. The reception was marked by an atmosphere of enthusiasm, with chants, slogans, and signs in support of the Palestinian cause.
A symbolic stop on a pan-Maghreb journey
The “Assommoud to Gaza” Caravan continued its journey later in the morning from Tunis, heading toward Gaza via Libya and Egypt, with the aim of reaching the Rafah border crossing. This route is part of a broader transnational movement calling for the end of the blockade imposed on Gaza since 2007.
The caravan includes the participation of approximately 1,500 Tunisian men and women, in addition to the Algerian delegation and expected contingents from other Maghreb countries.
A collective message of solidarity with Gaza
Through this popular and peaceful initiative, the Tunisian and Algerian people reaffirm their support for the Palestinian cause and their opposition to the ongoing siege of Gaza. The caravan is not only a humanitarian gesture, but also a political statement aimed at drawing international attention to the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The convoy is expected to reach the Rafah crossing in the coming days, where a major peaceful demonstration is scheduled for June 15, calling for the lifting of the blockade and the opening of humanitarian corridors to the besieged enclave.
