United States President Joe Biden announced on Tuesday new sanctions on Russia due to the recognition of the Donetsk (DPR) and Lugansk People’s Republics’ (LPR) independence.
“Today, I’m announcing the first tranche of sanctions to impose costs on Russia in response to their actions yesterday. These have been closely coordinated with our allies and partners and will continue to escalate if Russia escalates,” said Biden. Moreover, he added that the US government is implementing a complete blockade on two Russian financial institutions, as well as “elites and their family members.”
Besides, he also mentioned that the sanctions are likely to hurt American citizens, but the government is willing to take robust actions to ensure they affect the Russian economy.
