According to a hospital statement, the service was launched following the provision of new equipment by the Ministry of Health.
Upgraded medical equipment
The equipment supplied includes a 4K endoscopy system, a flexible ureteroscope, a high-power laser and all the accessories and instruments required for these procedures, the hospital said.
This setup allows the urology department to offer flexible ureteroscopy with laser fragmentation to treat kidney stones.
Further treatment options for large stones
In the next phase, the hospital plans to introduce what its statement describes as a “500-micron laser” for percutaneous stone fragmentation procedures.
According to the hospital, these procedures are the standard treatment for large stones.
Mini-PCNL to be introduced soon
The department also plans to begin performing Mini-PCNL, or miniaturised percutaneous nephrolithotomy, in the near future.
The hospital said this planned service forms part of its efforts to expand modern, minimally invasive care for patients with urinary stones.
