United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken talked on the phone with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty , the State Department said. The two discussed the efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Blinken and Abdelatty also spoke about the situation in Syria, with Blinken reiterating Washington’s support for an “inclusive, Syrian-led and Syrian-owned peaceful political transition to a representative and accountable government.” The outgoing US diplomat also thanked Egypt for its role in regional peace efforts and “underlined the importance of the US-Egypt strategic partnership.”
