A military source told Al-Hurra that the mobile communication devices, which blasted and caused hundreds of injuries on Tuesday in Lebanon, were likely hacked through their communication wave. This hack reportedly raised the heat in the lithium batteries, leading to the explosions.
Following the incident, Hezbollah instructed its members and supporters to immediately dispose of these devices. It remains unclear whether Hezbollah militants in active fighting zones are still using them.
Reuters cited security sources saying that the devices that exploded were the latest models acquired by Hezbollah in recent months. A Hezbollah official described the event as the “largest security breach so far.”
According to Al-Hurra’s correspondent, hospitals are overwhelmed with the injured, and the number of wounded may surpass 2,000 people.
