Borrell slams double standards over Putin, Netanyahu warrants

The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell reiterated on Tuesday that the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must be respected and voiced hope that European countries will “fulfil obligations under interantional law” and abide by the warrant.

Borrell stressed that the ICC cannot be approved of when it “goes against [Russian President Vladimir] Putin, but opposed when it goes against Netanyahu.” His comments come after the United States rejected the warrant for Netanyahu over war crimes in Gaza.

The EU official also called for pressuring Israel to accept the latest ceasefire proposal with Lebanon, stressing the deal has “all necessary security guarantees” for the country.
