The cost of bottled water for a Tunisian family of five has risen since 2022, now ranging between 130 and 140 dinars per month, according to water resource management expert Houcine Rehili in an interview with the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) news agency.
This increase is primarily attributed to the significant rise in temperatures caused by climate change, which has led Tunisian households to consume an average of six bottles of water per day, especially during the summer months, the expert explained.
Rehili also noted that Tunisia ranks as the world’s fourth-largest consumer of bottled water. According to the latest figures from the National Office of Thermalism and Hydrotherapy, the country’s average annual per capita consumption of bottled water reached 241 liters in 2024, up from 225 liters in 2020.
