Brazilian club Flamengo announced on Tuesday that it has sacked head coach Filipe Luís, following a run of disappointing results since the start of the season—just hours after a comprehensive 8-0 win over Madureira in the Guanabara Cup.
In a statement, Flamengo said that “as of Tuesday, Filipe Luís will no longer lead the first team.” The club added that Ivan Palanco (assistant coach) and Diego Liniares (fitness coach) are also leaving their posts, while thanking the technical staff “for what it achieved and contributed during its tenure” and wishing it “every success for the next stage of its professional career.”
Filipe Luís’ spell in charge of Flamengo ends after 101 matches, with a record of 63 wins, 23 draws and 15 defeats. He leaves as the club’s second-most successful coach in terms of trophies, having won five major titles : the 2024 Copa do Brasil, the 2025 Brazilian Super Cup, the 2025 Campeonato Carioca, the 2025 Copa Libertadores and the 2025 Brazilian league title.
A former Flamengo player, Filipe Luís began his coaching career with the club’s youth teams after retiring. He was then appointed first-team head coach in September 2024, succeeding Tite, delivering notable results before succumbing this season to the pressure of performances and results.
