At least 60 people have died after a suspension bridge collapsed in India’s Gujarat state on Sunday just four days after it reopened following renovations, the AP reported, citing officials.
The colonial-era crossing reportedly collapsed because it couldn’t handle the weight of over 500 people that were on it at the time.
Local news channels had the number of dead at various different figures, with the Hindustan Times reporting that the death toll stood at 40.
