According to preliminary data on the execution of the state budget for the current year, Tunisia’s government expenditures during the first quarter of 2025 reached 10,653.3 million dinars.
Subsidy spending—covering basic commodities, fuel, and transport—amounted to 1,527.1 million dinars by the end of March 2025, up from 1,372.7 million dinars during the same period in 2024. Subsidies accounted for 14% of total government expenditures in the first quarter.
With the 2025 Finance Law allocating 11,593 million dinars to subsidies for the full year, the execution rate by the end of March stood at 13%.
A breakdown of subsidy expenditures during the first quarter shows that fuel subsidies represented the largest share, totaling 979.2 million dinars, or 64% of total subsidy spending.
Transport subsidies during the same period amounted to 349.2 million dinars, compared to 201.5 million dinars in the first quarter of 2024—an increase of 73% year-on-year.
As for subsidies dedicated to basic commodities, they rose by 16%, from 171.6 million dinars at the end of March 2024 to 198.7 million dinars over the same period this year.
