At least 13 people have died, and 4.5 million have been affected by floods triggered by heavy rains in eastern Bangladesh, according to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.
Torrential rains have inundated extensive areas of low-lying Bangladesh, prompting rescuers to scramble to evacuate flooded communities.
The ministry reported on Friday that nearly 190,000 individuals have been relocated to emergency relief shelters, with 11 of the country’s 64 districts impacted by the flooding.
Feni, located about 100 km (60 miles) northwest of the main port city of Chittagong, has been the hardest hit.
The South Asian nation of 170 million people, crisscrossed by hundreds of rivers, has experienced frequent floods in recent decades.
The army and the navy have been deployed, with speedboats and helicopters rescuing those stranded by the swollen rivers.
