Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, announced on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, that the recent ceasefire negotiations on Gaza, held in Doha over the past few weeks, have so far failed to produce any tangible results due to deep-rooted disagreements between the involved parties.
Speaking at a press conference, the Qatari Prime Minister stated that the talks, which took place over the past two weeks in Doha, “have not led to anything so far because of a fundamental gap between the two sides.”
He explained that “one side is seeking a partial agreement that could pave the way for a broader deal, while the other side is insisting on a one-time agreement aimed at ending the war and securing the release of all hostages. We have not been able to bridge this essential gap.”
Sheikh Mohammed expressed concern over Israel’s intensified military operations in Gaza, saying they undermine ongoing peace efforts in the region. He emphasized that Qatar remains committed to working alongside Egypt and the United States to pursue a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
Qatar has played a central mediating role in past regional negotiations and continues to advocate for diplomatic solutions to the conflict. However, the latest round of talks highlights the persistent challenges and the widening divide between the warring parties, which risk prolonging the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
