CHAN: Gambian Delegation Stranded in Mauritania Ahead of Algeria Clash

Trouble continues to mount for Gambia’s A’ national team, which has been left stranded in Nouakchott, Mauritania, the Gambian Football Federation (GFF) announced early Thursday afternoon via a statement on its official Facebook page. The A’ Scorpions were scheduled to arrive in Algeria on Wednesday evening to take part in the second leg of the CHAN 2025 qualifying play-off. The tournament is set to take place jointly in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from August 2 to 30.

According to the GFF statement, the situation arose after the Gambian delegation missed its initial flight to Algiers, from where the team was to travel on to Annaba. The delay was caused by a late departure from Senegal, where the delegation had made a scheduled stopover in line with the original flight plan.

It remains to be seen in the coming hours whether Gambia will arrive on time, or whether the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will opt to postpone the match due to these circumstances, which are beyond the team’s control.
