Cholera Death Toll in Sudan Rises to 1,316

The Sudanese Ministry of Health has reported that the death toll from cholera has increased to 1,316 in the country, which has been experiencing armed conflict since April 2023.

In a statement reported by media outlets, the ministry confirmed 34 new cholera cases on Monday. The total number of cholera cases has now reached 49,554, including 1,316 deaths.

The statement also mentioned a “drop in cholera infection rates, as well as a decrease in admissions to isolation centres.” On August 12, the Sudanese authorities declared cholera an epidemic in the country.

This outbreak coincides with the ongoing suffering caused by the continuous war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces since mid-April 2023, which has resulted in over 20,000 deaths and more than 14 million displaced persons and refugees, according to the latest UN data.
