Club Africain: Yassine Meriah Retires from Football !

In a surprise decision, 33-year-old Tunisia international defender Yassine Meriah has announced his retirement from football, bringing an end to a distinguished career at both club and international level, during which he made 95 appearances for the senior national team.

In a post shared on his Instagram account, Meriah explained that his decision came after lengthy consideration, citing knee pain that he has been suffering from for the past two years.

Meriah said he had tried, as much as possible, to continue his career despite the pain, but that the time had now come to bring his sporting career to an end, stressing that his decision was motivated by health reasons.

The former international also expressed hope that he had enjoyed an honorable career and had spared no effort in serving the clubs he represented.

Yassine Meriah had recently joined Club Africain as a free agent, following the end of his spell with Espérance Sportive de Tunis.

Meriah’s career ranks among the most notable defensive careers in Tunisian football in recent years. He notably played for CS Sfaxien, Greek side Olympiakos, Turkish clubs Kasımpaşa and Çaykur Rizespor, Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates, and Espérance Sportive de Tunis, before joining Club Africain.

He was also part of the Tunisia national team squads at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, as well as at several editions of the Africa Cup of Nations.

With this announcement, Yassine Meriah brings his football career to an end after several years with the national team and a number of Tunisian and foreign clubs.
