Lumen Field Stadium in Seattle, Washington, hosted the opening match of Group E on Tuesday evening, featuring Argentina’s River Plate against Japan’s Urawa Reds. The final score: a 3–1 victory for the Argentine side.
Goals were scored by Facundo Colidio (12’), Sebastián Driussi (48’), and Maximiliano Meza (75’) for River Plate, while Yusuke Matsuo (58’) managed to pull one back for the Japanese team.
As a reminder, River Plate secured its place in this year’s Club World Cup thanks to consistent performances in the Copa Libertadores. Their Japanese opponents earned their spot in the group stage by winning the 2022 AFC Champions League.
The second match in this group is scheduled for early tomorrow morning (1:00 a.m. Tunisian time), with Italy’s Inter Milan set to face Mexico’s Monterrey.
