Club World Cup: The 4 African clubs that caused a sensation (video)

Starting this Sunday morning, the USA will host the new edition of the 32-club Club World Cup from June 15 to July 13.

Historically, four African clubs have made their mark in this competition: Espérance Tunis, Al Ahly, Raja Casablanca, and TP Mazembe.

    – Espérance’s highest score was in the 2019 fifth-place playoff (December 17) at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, defeating Qatar’s Al Sadd Club 6-2, and his spanish coach Xavi.

    – Raja Casablanca excelled on home soil in 2007, reaching the final under the tutelage of Tunisian Faouzi Benzarti, only to lose 2-0 to Bayern Munich. In the second round, Raja defeated Mexican side CF Monterrey 2-1, before subsequently beating Brazilian side Atlético Mineiro 3-1.

    – Congolese football giants TP Mazembe established themselves as one of the main attractions of the 2010 World Cup, but ultimately lost 3-0 to Inter Milan in the tournament final.

    – Egyptian football giants Al Ahly have achieved the feat of winning the bronze medal at this World Cup four times, in 2006, 2020, 2021, and 2023.
