The Tunisian Customs Directorate had a fruitful year. Colonel-Major Chokri Jabri, spokesperson for the General Directorate, announced on Friday, December 6, during an interview with Mosaïque FM, that customs officers seized goods worth 512 million dinars. These included counterfeit items, food products, clothing, cosmetics, drugs, and cigarettes.
Among the seized goods were over 1 million drug pills, 30 kg of cocaine, and 200 kg of cannabis. This announcement coincided with the celebration of the 68th anniversary of Tunisian Customs, under the theme: “A transparent administration, renewed and integrated with its partners.”
Colonel-Major Jabri also underscored ongoing efforts in digitization, including the rollout of the Synda 2 information system, expected to be operational by the end of the year. This system aims to digitize all customs administrative transactions, guaranteeing transparency, good governance, simplified procedures, and electronic invoicing and payments.
This initiative is designed to greatly facilitate the activities of economic operators and Tunisians living abroad (TRE). By 2025, paper-based transactions will be completely phased out in favour of fully digital processes.
