Several governorates in the north-west, notably Béja and Jendouba, were affected early this Wednesday, 10 December 2025, by dense fog that formed from the first hours of dawn. This phenomenon caused a sharp reduction in visibility on a number of roads and forced road users to exercise greater caution while travelling.
Thick fog from the early hours of the day
From dawn this Wednesday, 10 December 2025, particularly thick fog was observed in several regions of the north-west, especially in the governorates of Béja and Jendouba.
This morning fog severely limited visibility, making driving conditions more difficult, particularly on roads linking urban areas to inland localities. Motorists and truck drivers were compelled to adjust their speed and show increased vigilance.
Weather conditions conducive to fog in several regions
In a monitoring bulletin, the National Institute of Meteorology indicated that the weather conditions this Wednesday are generally favourable to the formation of localized fog banks over:
the north of the country
the eastern regions of the centre
as well as the south
According to the same source, this fog may be particularly dense, especially in coastal areas and low-lying zones, where the drop in visibility is most pronounced.
Visibility dropping below 500 meters
The National Institute of Meteorology specified that this phenomenon can lead to a significant reduction in horizontal visibility, which may drop to less than 500 meters in the most affected areas.
This level of visibility, particularly on expressways and national roads, requires cautious driving, the use of dipped headlights and strict compliance with safety distances in order to limit the risk of accidents.
Gradual dissipation expected from 9 a.m.
Still according to the Institute’s forecasts, this fog is expected to begin dissipating gradually from 9 a.m. onwards.
Visibility should then improve over the course of the morning, allowing a return to more normal traffic conditions on most of the affected roads. However, the authorities and meteorological services are calling on road users to remain cautious as long as the fog persists, especially in low areas and near the coast.
