The National Office of the Dentists’ Syndicate in Tunisia has confirmed that the pricing for dental services is regulated by a clear legal framework issued by the Order of Dentists, the sole authority responsible for setting the official fee list for medical procedures.
In a clarifying statement, the syndicate stressed that price increases are neither arbitrary nor unilateral but rather a result of the rising costs of medical supplies, equipment, clinic rentals, taxes, and operational expenses, which have greatly increased in recent years. As a result, adjustments were required to maintain high-quality services for patients.
The statement also pointed out that the National Health Insurance Fund (CNAM) is fully aware of the actual costs of medical services and that an agreement between the syndicate and CNAM was reached in 2021 to adjust reimbursement rates to improve access to treatment.
The syndicate highlighted that Tunisian dentists are working under challenging conditions due to the sector’s neglect, lack of recognition of its specificities, high tax burdens, and rising operational costs.
This statement was issued in response to media remarks by a representative of an organization that accused dentists of illegally increasing fees.
The syndicate denounced such “irresponsible statements”, stating that they harm the reputation of the dental sector at both the national and international levels. It underlined that undermining the credibility of the profession without clear evidence is completely unacceptable, as it damages trust between dentists and patients.
