Customs authorities at the Ras Jedir border crossing have thwarted an attempt to smuggle 22,440 ecstasy tablets and approximately 2,200 grams of cocaine during two successive operations.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the General Directorate of Customs confirmed the seizure of the illicit substances, which had been concealed inside two vehicles preparing to enter the national territory via the Ras Jedir crossing.
According to the customs service, the first operation led to the seizure of 12,680 ecstasy tablets, carefully hidden in a vehicle carrying three individuals.
The second operation resulted in the confiscation of 9,581 ecstasy tablets and 2,200 grams of cocaine, also concealed inside a vehicle with two occupants on board.
Two official seizure reports were filed in connection with the operations.
Following consultation, the Public Prosecutor’s Office authorized the transfer of the case files to the relevant security services to continue the investigation.
